BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD – June 9, 2014 – The Baltimore Symphonic Band (BSB), a 50 piece musical ensemble based at CCBC Essex, has just completed its Western-Maryland concert tour. The band performed this past weekend (June 7 – 8, 2014) in Cumberland and Williamsport and was very well received in both locations.

“Our performance on Saturday at Canal Place in Cumberland was a great success,” said Christopher Wolfe, music director of the band. “The audience was enthusiastic and obviously enjoyed the music.”
On Sunday BSB participated in the Maryland Community Band Day festival at The Barn at Springfield Farm in Williamsport, MD, hosted by the Williamsport Community Band. The audience especially enjoyed the music representing the West, such as The Magnificent Seven and Star of Dreams. The Overture 1812 was also a big hit.

Maryland Community Band Day is an annual festival that brings together community bands from all over the state of Maryland for a full day of performances and camaraderie.
“Band Day was started by the Baltimore Symphonic Band and the Southern Maryland Community Band, which no longer exists,” said Cindy Suchanek, president and concert master of the Baltimore Symphonic Band. “Each year, the festival moves to a different community, and the venues over the years have included Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and Annapolis.”
“Sunday’s installment of the festival is the best I have ever seen,” said Christopher Wolfe. “I was particularly impressed by the number of bands Williamsport was able to attract.”

The Baltimore Symphonic Band is a 50 piece community concert band based at CCBC Essex. Unlike other community bands, the BSB is fully integrated with the Performing Arts instruction at CCBC and affords members the opportunity to receive college credit for their participation.
