BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. – Celebrating its 24th year, Maryland Community Band Day is an annual event showcasing community bands from around the state. This year’s host band is the Baltimore Symphonic Band, directed by Christopher Wolfe, professor of Music, Community College of Baltimore and founder of the BSB.
Maryland Community Band Day 2013 offers an afternoon of music from 12:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at the Lurman Woodland Theatre in Catonsville, 21228. All performances are free and open to the public; no tickets are required. This outdoor event will feature seven community bands performing a variety of musical styles, ranging from contemporary and show tunes to jazz and classical.
In addition to the Baltimore Symphonic Band, this year’s line-up includes: Bay Winds Band of Annapolis, Bel Air Community Band, Montgomery Village Community Band, Olney Concert Band, Rockville Concert Band, and Columbia Concert Band. The event boasts about 500 musicians from across the state.

Established in 1981, the Baltimore Symphonic Band, in residence at the Community College of Baltimore County – Essex Campus, utilizes the skills and talents of all-volunteer membership to provide its audiences with the opportunity to hear quality band music ranging from marches to symphonic works. Musicians of all ages with variety of musical backgrounds are provided with the opportunity to broaden and apply their musical performance skills. They participate in the band out of the love of playing and performing music.
